Free WebCamps for you in Pakistan!

by asli 9. November 2010 16:35

web campsOn the heels of a successful Karachi event, we are pleased to announce two more WebCamps in Pakistan. November 24th in Lahore. And November 30 in Islamabad. Please register at http://www.webcamps.ms.

The momentum continues across the region. Over the next few weeks Microsoft is sponsoring over 20 free Web Camp Training Events, Content and a Channel 9 TV Show around the Middle East and Africa.   Each WebCamp is a 1 day session with 30-50 attendees, we recommend participants bring their own laptop. These provide a great way to learn about SP.NET MVC, WebMatrix, Visual Studio 2010, Web Apps, IE9/HTML5, jQuery and more.

The camps are designed to be interactive with focus on learning through presentations that are heavy on coding demos. The objective is to help you build real applications using what you’ve learned, including hands-on labs, where you join small development teams with other attendees and work on a project together.

In Karachi, we partnered with IEEE Pakistan to organize the first Pakistani Microsoft Webcamp on latest web technologies including ASP.NET, WPF, Silverlight, LINQ and ADO.NET. The camp was held at October 30, 2010 at Usman Institute of Technology. This training was held exclusively for the participants of Pakistan Student Congress, a yearly gathering of leading students under the umbrella of IEEE.

The training was focused on modern web development by using Visual Studio 2010 and Expression Blend 4.0 tools. More than 25 participants attended this hands on workshop and implemented the real world scenarios.

It is truly an exciting time with our next generation web stack and tools. Look to this blog for more announcements in the next 48 hours.

Work for Microsoft for the Middle East & Africa

by Asli 5. March 2010 08:16

Microsoft Middle East & Africa (MEA) is a dynamic and rapidly growing region when it comes to our technology platform. To mirror this, we have a slew of jobs in the region that we are actively hiring for.  Click on any of the links to view the job details, and then click the Apply to job button to submit your CV/resume.  You can also filter for only jobs in a specific product line or division, and save that search.

I created a list that highlights some of the countries in MEA – feel free to subscribe directly to this list, or create your own.

View RSS to see the various jobs in MEA – you can subscribe to this list for real time updates. Here is an excerpt of the roles in UAE and Turkey.

Highlights

My number one favorite open position in Dubai that we have open is a Developer Evangelist, the role I played in New York City for nearly 7 years.  This one will go fast, so please apply fast.   The second most interesting role is the Academic & Local Software Economy Lead who can live nearly anywhere in the region. Both are listed below.

I like to think of Dubai as the New York and Abu Dhabi as the Washington DC of the Emirates. In Abu Dhabi, order reins true in properly parallel streets – which is not the only rein, as evidenced by the recently rebranded Burj Khalifa. There we have several positions open - we even offer part time flexibility, which perfect for young mothers.

We have a wide variety of roles available in MEA, for the newly graduated and looking to break into IT/ICT, to the developer who is interested in cloud or the seasoned architect, or to the senior executive looking for a challenging role in our Business Management Office.
